September Reads

I’m a reader, I love books. For me books are a way to relax, an escape, a way to learn new things. I try to read a little bit every day because it’s such a great stress reliever and an easy way to do something for myself. This month these are the books that I read:

The One in a Million Boy by Monica Wood

This was such a good read, I think the story will be one of those that sticks with me for a while. It was about the relationship between a father who had just lost his son and the little old lady the son was doing yard work for as a Scout project. But this description is a little simplistic and doesn’t even do it justice, it’s also about guilt and love and friendship and dreams and LIFE. Just trust me when I say it was an excellent read. This is a book I’d feel comfortable recommending to anyone.

Why Not Me by Mindy Kaling

I listened to this as an audiobook, which was fun because Mindy reads it herself. It was a quick, funny, and maybe somewhat forgettable (I liked Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me, her other book, a little better). But it was great to read as I was going through Mindy Project withdrawals.

The Muse by Jessie Burton

YOU GUYS. I loved this. I loved it so much. It’s historical fiction about art- painting and writing, and follows two separate and entwined stories, and had a small mystery feel to it. What is not to love?! It follows a Trinidadian girl living and working in London and a mysterious and famous painting her boyfriend happens to have, and the story of the paintings origins and the family involved in Spain in the 30s.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

I started reading this one, and finished it on audio. Jane Eyre is a re-read and a favorite. I love watching Jane change throughout the book.
