Life Lately, in a nutshell

August 13, 2019 ~ ashalivingstone ~ Leave a comment

And by drastic I mean it felt that way to me, but in reality we've just been through a lot of normal changes that happened all at once. First of all, my husband lost his … Continue reading Life Lately, in a nutshell

My Instagram

When I woke up this morning I noticed that all the trees were coated in a think layer of frost, so we skipped the bookwork and went for a walk. I’m so grateful that homeschooling is giving me the time and opportunity to learn to appreciate nature’s beauty along with my kids. I’ve never really been an outdoorsy person, I’m still not, but I’ve realized that if I want my kids to value something they have to see me valuing it too.
Its the start of a busy week. This week I’m helping out with a church Christmas party for all the sisters, and the very next day is the day the homeschool co-op I’ve been sitting on the board for finally opens and begins our first week of classes and activities. And then we’ll usher in the weekend with my birthday. My head is a whirlwind of all the things I need to do and prepare: the laundry to wash, the homeschool lessons to get through, the centrepieces to arrange, and the class to prepare for. And best of all: what am I getting myself for my birthday?! 😂🤪 But as Wyatt was sitting here playing with my scraps he started quoting Lewis Carroll’s Jabberwocky, something about “standing in uffish thought” or the Tumtum tree, and it made me laugh. I’m so grateful my life is so full of so many good things. And I think we’ll make it through the week.
Happy Monday. Back to school, back to routine. Lucky for us our routine consists of math on the couch, our history read aloud while snacking (not pictures), and walks through the park. I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I’m seriously in love with the freedom homeschooling gives us!
Yesterday the kids participated with John in our homeschool boards anuual Fun Run and I was super impressed with how well they did. Wyatt ran 2km without even once stopping for a break or slowing down to a walk. Porter ran 3km straight through and finished 8th, which was super impressive considering he was one of the younger ones. And they LOVED it!
